With so many author tours being canceled, Debutiful has invited any author who had events canceled or postponed due to COVID-19 to do a reading and a brief interview as part of the Digital Book Tour podcast series.
Carter Sickels released his debut book in 2012. The Evening House was a finalist in multiple awards, including the Lambda Literary Award. Eight years later, he has released his follow-up: The Prettiest Star. Carter, whose work has appeared in a variety of publications, including Oxford American, Poets & Writers, BuzzFeed, Guernica, and the Bellevue Literary Review, also teaches at Eastern Kentucky University. We spoke about queer representation, how far (or not far) we have progressed as a society, and how his book evolved.
