Lauren E. Osborn‘s Entomology of the Pin-Up Girl is the winner of the 2024 Dzanc Short Story Collection Prizeand is set to be published by Dzanc on May 12, 2026. It is now available for pre-order.

Upon announcing the prize in December 2024, Dan Wickett, Dzanc’s co-founder and founder of the Emerging Writers Network said of the short story collection, “The title of Lauren Osborn’s collection leads you to the works inside Entomology of the Pin-Up Girl. Insects and girls and women drive every one of the stories in this exciting collection. Osborn utilizes each odd scenario to dig into the human condition. This collection nicely continues Dzanc’s publishing of story collections full of surprises and scenarios one rarely finds in stories today.”

Larissa Pham follows up her essay collection Pop Song, which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize, with her debut novel, Discipline. The book will be released by Random House on January 20, 2026, and is now available for pre-order.

In the novel, the main character, Christine, is on a book tour for her book, which is a thinly veiled revenge fantasy based on a relationship she had with a former professor. Her world is turned upside down when he reaches out after years of silence and invites her to visit him on a remote island off the coast of Maine.

The indie press has selected three debuts to be their lead titles for the season instead of building their promotion around established writers. If you’ve been watching Debutiful’s social media recently, you may have already spotted the cover for Mayra in a recent summer book mail hype post. If you haven’t, get ready to be blown away.

Mayra by Nicky Gonzalez is a modern, gothic horror set in the swampland of Florida. Gonzalez, who hails from Hialeah, Florida, introduces readers to two estranged friends who reunite in a house in the Everglades. What follows is an unsettling and propulsive journey into the madness of friendship all while being haunted by their very surroundings.

Set to release on July 22, the book is available for pre-order. You can read stories and previous work by Gonzalez that has appeared in McSweeney’s Quarterly ConcernBOMB Magazine, Kenyon Review Online, and Taco Bell Quarterly, among others, on her website.
