Doretta Lau, known for her breakout short story collection debut, How Does a Single Blade of Grass Thank the Sun?, is back with her debut novel. Coming on October 14, 2026 from House of Anasi, We Are Underlings is about a grieving young marketing employee at a macabre theme park devoted to death and the afterlife who must help program her mysteriously deceased boss’s reanimated corpse to keep the park’s grand opening on schedule, forcing her to navigate corporate absurdity, workplace necromancy, and a string of suspicious deaths among her coworkers.

T Clark is a writer whose short fiction have appeared in  Joyland, The Kenyon Review, American Short Fiction, The Offing, and Fourteen Hills. They received their MFA from Indiana University and support from Omi International Arts Center in Ghent, New York; the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown; the Lambda Literary Foundation; the Elizabeth George Foundation; the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing; and the Vermont Studio Center.

Their debut story collection All This Want (and I Can’t Get None)  explores the feverish hunger and dizzying pleasure of girlhood and queer coming-of-age in a small town. It will be published by One World on June 23, 2026 and is available for pre-order now.

Chicago-based writer Sophie Lefens has published her writing in Third Coast Magazine, Passengers Journal, The Christian Century, and Scary Sugar. A graduate of the Yale Divinity School, she is set to release her debut novel, Her Kind, on October 13, 2026, on Mariner Books. It is available for pre-order now.

Described as a novel about friendship and motherhood, it follows Ada, who is raising her son alone. When she is plagued by visions of being pulled away from Earth, Ada invites her three closest friends for a weekend to an old family cabin to see who might care for her son if she dies. What follows at the cabin is a series of events that opens deep wounds and reveals long-forgotten secrets.

In their debut novel, The Body Riddle, Sam K MacKinnon introduces readers to Lex, who finally receives top surgery, but nothing that comes after is what they imagined. Their partner finds a new flame, well within the boundaries of their non-monogamous relationship’s rules, but Lex starts to spiral. That is, until they meet a nonbinary coworker who helps Lex discover something new about themself. What follows is a meditation on queerness, the body, and belonging.

The Body Riddle will be published on May 19, 2026, by House of Anasi Press and is available for preorder now.
